The New Malden Kitchen & Larder

“From our first visit to the showroom it was clear that we would look no further and the design evolved from there. The team who designed and installed the kitchen, were so talented, that bespoke touch really came through.”

The Design

We recently completed this lovely kitchen for a family near New Malden, London. Herringbone worked with interior designer Sara Brockett and the design is made particularly for this space as there were some odd angles to content with. The bespoke design means that all units are now flush but all the cabinet depths are slightly different.

It features a short run of low cabinetry with a sink and tall cabinets on each side to fit as much storage as possible as well as the fridge freezer and ovens. The overhang on the island allows for comfortly seating four people and allows for an extension of the workspace, including the hob.

“The kitchen layout is absolutely perfect, through discussions with Luke we pushed the space between island and units to the max, the island itself is bigger than initial designs and there is a simplicity to the layout which I love.”

The cabinetry is our Applegate Range, a modern take on the traditional shaker style cabinetry in a gorgeous green colour.

The Details: Colours, Hardware, Worktops Etc

The space works as a large living, kitchen, dining area, which due to the nature of the design and bespoke make of the cabinets, flows seamlessly together as one. The original 1930’s round 'porthole' windows beautifully sit above the worktop and under the floating shelf which brings the design together.

“It's hard to choose which element of the kitchen I love the best - I love how smoothly the drawers flow, the large expanse of island, my pull out larder but probably the icing on the cake is the large larder cupboard which was meant for food storage but seems to have turned into a coffee station and a bar and is a real standout part of the kitchen.”

The simplicity of the CRL Verona Quartz worktop adds elegance and style to the cabinetry. The hidden storage is lovely in this kitchen and the Applegate Range works perfectly for these kinds of “secrets”.

The Larder Cupboard

At the end of the worktop sits floor to ceiling bespoke units, hidding away a large larder. It features natural elements of oak shelving at different heights to store all essentials. The cold shelf in the bar is perfect for hiding away all the utilities whilst plugs have been fitted to enable the use of white goods. The drawers offer up the perfect storage for pasta, cereals, condiments etc.

We are also big fans of the “Bar Open” sign - we wish the client a lifestime of fun and happiness in their kitchen.

On Using Herringbone

“Luke was incredibly helpful in terms of the phasing of things e.g. ducting for our Bora hob, flooring, final measurements - that was the sort of thing that kept me awake a night - worrying we'd do something in the wrong order and so his patience with my endless questions was invaluable.”
