 East Dulwich Kitchen

We recently completed this project for a family in East Dulwich! This was such a fun project to work on, with bespoke cabinetry in our Rye range painted in Mylands’ famous ‘Bond Street’; a deep, navy blue.

When we asked our clients if they knew there was something they knew they wanted from the get go, they said:

“From the beginning of the process, we knew we needed a kitchen that was going to look beautiful and be super functional for the long term. We have both owned properties before, but have never had a kitchen that we have installed, and given how much time we spend in there and how much I love to cook, we wanted it to be perfect. I have also always wanted a larder- we had one when I was growing up, and I remember how useful it was, so I knew that was a must!”

Accessories

Our clients chose a classic combination of handles including our Bakes Pull handles for the larder door, Cotswold Cup Pulls for the drawers and integrated appliance doors and the Cotswold Bun Knobs for their cupboard doors; all in a gorgeous burnished brass finish. We asked our clients about their process when choosing a colour palette & hardware and they said:

“For the handles, we were very much guided by David- we wanted a classic look and love aged brass. In terms of choosing the colour scheme- we initially thought we would have a different colour for the island from the units, but once we (I!) chose the tiles for the backsplash, we decided to keep all the woodwork the same dark blue and have the small splash of colour from the tiles. We chose the Bond Street together, but the tiles were entirely my choice and required a bit of convincing! The worktops were a relatively simple decision- we wanted a light colour and something that was hard wearing without the staining (and cost) of marble.”

A show stopping feature in this kitchen has to be the tiled splashback! Covering the wall entirely from the worktop all the way up to the wall units, these lovely pink tiles arranged in a herringbone pattern certainly make a statement and bring colour and whole lot of personality to this kitchen project.

You can purchase these beautiful ceramic tiles in our Pantry in Rose, Azure, Ecru, Grey, Smoke and White

Walk-in Pantry

We love incorporating walk-in pantrys into our design, they are both beautiful and practical places to tuck away storage for the kitchen. Our client had the perfect nook for a walk in pantry area. A tall, double larder unit was made, with oak traditional shelving and drawers as well as a cold shelf and painted spice racks with brass rails to match the rest of the kitchens hardware. Open shelving was introduced to the space to keep it from feeling top heavy. We asked our clients what their favourite part of their new kitchen was and they had this to say:

“Oh the walk in pantry!! I could spend all day in there! I absolutely love it, I’m so glad we went with that instead of a pure utility area. The open shelving was to try and lighten up the small area with no natural light, but I also love how it just showcases the jars!! My favourite part of the new kitchen is the walk in pantry and the Bora hob. I just asked Mev what his favourite part was and he said the insinkerator!! Which is slightly more boring but so incredibly practical!”

The Design

This kitchen was so much fun to design and make, espcially with the walk-in pantry area. We make all of your bespoke cabinetry ourselves in our workshop just outside of Canterbury. Each piece is carefully crafted and we love every opportunity we receive to be creative and innovative when designing and making your kitchen, wardrobes, utility or boot-room.

Our clients always have such lovely feedback for us that make us teary eyed. Our clients in Dulwich had this to say:

“Our experience with Herringbone was personal, professional and expert from the outset. Changing and tweaking the design was never an issue, and we loved our trips to the studio in Canterbury. When our build was pushed back slightly, the team worked hard to get us a more suitable installation date, and were always easy to contact. When we had problems during and after the installation with the insinkerator and extractor fan, the team (and in particular David) were very helpful and arranged replacements quickly (especially given it was over Christmas). We now have a kitchen that we love to be in, works for us, and is beautiful. Thank you Herringbone!”
