Large white kitchen with waterfall island designed by Herringbone Kitchens in Sevenoaks Kent

“I had admired Herringbone Kitchens’ work and ethos on Instagram for a while before getting in touch regarding our project. David was really friendly from the outset and very receptive to our ideas. His experience and expertise were invaluable as he was able to guide us when required and add certain design elements we hadn’t considered.

The Design

We recently completed this lovely open plan kitchen for a lovely family in South Kent. The two-toned light grey and dark blue kitchen looks incredible in any light, working perfectly with the veins of the worktop. The lines and function of this kitchen are smooth and the symmetry of the kitchen inviting in the social bar area is just beautiful. We had such a lovely time designing this kitchen with our wonderful client.

“The fact that we chose to go for a bespoke kitchen meant that we could decide what the cabinets would look like, make the most of the space available and ensure that what we designed would work for our family now and in the future.  We chose the Westminster range, but we wanted something slightly more contemporary, so we took out the centre rails and kept both the doors and drawers really simple.”

The kitchen is designed in our Westminster Style and bespokely altered and fitted to perfectly fit into this light kitchen extension.

The Details: Colours, Hardware, Worktops Etc

This kitchen design has extraodinary attention to detail. Everything works in sync from the waterfall island and and range cooker to the breakfast bar and corner cupboards - everything has a space which makes for smooth userbility.

The bespoke elements of this kitchen are clear to see, the drawers have been created to store cuttlery and utensils, the larder is perfect for essential food storing and the breakfast bar works well on a day-to-day basis with the spice racks being perfect for grabbing when cooking too. The splashback seamlessly fit the material and look of the Quartz work top and makes the kitchen come to life.

“In order to frame this and add some symmetry I wanted to include wall cabinets with reeded glass either side - we also used the same glass for our bar cupboard. We had chosen a bespoke off white colour for the oven and this then helped when it came to choosing the colour palette for the cabinetry. Whilst I love a dark kitchen we wanted to create a light space as the ceiling is fairly low, so we decided on light grey for the main run of cabinets and dark blue/grey for the island. We also used the darker colour for our bar cupboard which sits independently in the new extension space.”

The burnished brass hardware throughout this kitchen looks stunning against the cabinet colour. The client used this finish for some of the smaller details like the brass rods for both the pantry cupboard spice racks and bar cupboard shelves, as well as the Quooker tap which was ordered in a bespoke finish to match. This attention to detail really brings the bespoke design to life.

The Bar

This beautiful bar and dresser is a real wow-factor in this space. Not only does it connect the kitchen and the living space but it also looks stunning as a piece of furniture in its own right. The rippled bi-fold doors are beautifully crafted and makes for a smooth user experience.

The lower part of the unit hides away an integrated fridge with ice cooler and a wine fridge, which makes everything accessible.

“I think it looks fantastic as a standalone piece of furniture with either the doors open (when in use) or closed. It is a real focal point for the room given its size and especially when we put the LED lights on inside. The shelves are great for storing our bottles and glasses and we also have a wine rack and fridge underneath so that everything is accessible.”

The Hallway Cupboard

This integrated clothes cupboard situated in the hallway of the family’s home is tucked away and flushed against the wall. It’s a beautiful and functional piece of storage, which hides away coats, shoes and assecories that are used on a day-to-day basis.

“Our ingenious hallway cupboard was our designer David’s idea. David was really friendly from the outset and very receptive to our ideas, so it really felt like a partnership to get to the final designs which was what I had hoped for given my passion for interior design.

The Utility

Storage is incredibly important and this utilty is fitted into the smallest room in the house. It features upper and lower cabinets, floor to ceiling cabinets, space for washer and dryer as well as a bespoke bench designed to store even more of the family’s shoes and wellington boots. We are also huge fans of the pink tile splashback!

This is one of the smallest rooms in the house, but it is also one of the most functional - the storage space is incredibly useful. I’m so pleased that we were also able to include bench in here as this is the main way out to the garden for the children - the bench allows us to store wellies underneath, provides a seat to put them on and it is also a very convenient place to sort out the laundry. Now all of the practical household items have a home and most things are hidden away! Details such as pull-out drawer for the laundry basket add a nice touch too.

On Using Herringbone

“We are really thrilled with the final result and I feel like Herringbone went above and beyond to help get us here. David even visited the site to help mark out where the island would go and look at light placements to ensure that they would be in the perfect position. Finally, when it came to the installation the fitters did a fantastic job! The lead fitter Lukas was meticulous and made sure that everything was perfect. Seeing the designs become a reality and watching as the space was transformed was a really exciting part of the process.“

We wish the client a lifetime of fun and happiness in their beautiful home.
