The Design

We recently completed this bespoke kitchen for a family near Dunorlan Park. The design of this gorgeous kitchen consists of an L-shaped run of cabinetry and a long kitchen island sitting parallel. Our clients chose their bespoke cabinetry from our Westminster range, our most traditional shaker style cabinet design.

The L-shape begins with a tall and narrow shelving unit, perfect for storing and displaying family cookbooks and nic nacs, with two tall units housing the American fridge freezer and oven tower. The rest of the run consists of only bottom units keeping the space feeling light and spacious, with the exception of one countertop unit, with beautiful reeded glass doors and oak shelves peeking through.

Placing the double Belfast sink below the kitchen window was an excellent choice, allowing whomever doing the dishes to gaze into the home's beautiful garden or keep an eye on the kids playing outside.

“We purchased our house 6 years before we started our renovation project. It was very dated and had a small kitchen. In 2019 we started the renovation project, which included building an extension and changing all the existing rooms. Our new kitchen is now located in the extension, and we couldn’t be happier. I knew I wanted a shaker kitchen, but when it came to choosing the company, I did a lot of research and when I came across Herringbone Kitchens, I had my heart set on them. I made an appointment and am so happy I did.”

“This was our first major renovation project. We extended the house by quiet a bit and left no room unchanged. The whole project took two years. I really enjoyed the process (most of the time) and choosing different elements for the house, but my favourite room is still our lovely kitchen. It’s the most utilised room and everyone enjoys spending time in there.”

The Details: Colours, Hardware & Worktops

For their cabinet colours, our lovely clients chose a forest green, paired with chunky, satin brass pull handles on both their drawers and cupboards. Green & brass is an incredibly luxurious and warming combination that won’t age.

“I had a good plan of what I wanted in my kitchen and when talking to David in my consultation process he got straight away what I wanted and had some fantastic ideas what else to include. The beauty about bespoke kitchens is that you can use all the space there is, and David made use of that. I learned what is practical and what is not, e.g. having the dish washer close to the bin in order to scrape left over food into the bin before stacking the dishes into the machine or having the preparation sink opposite to your main sink.

The vison for my kitchen was that I wanted a kitchen with was also a feature for my open plan living space and a focal point of our house. The favourite part of my new kitchen (if I must choose one, as I love it all) is my spice draw and the unit with the rippled glass. When I went on Herringbone Kitchens website, I looked at all the kitchens on there and saw one which I loved the colour of. I fell in love with the colour and that was when my decision re colour was made.

I discussed what I wanted in the kitchen - in terms of hardware with David and he in turn suggested what to go for. I did some research on every single one of them and agreed to all of them. Neff is a good brand and you get good quality for the money.”

Both the kitchen island and main run share a gorgeous polished Silestone quartz in ‘Eternal Statuario’. Quartz is an excellent material for your worktops if you are wanting a marble look but are concerned about stains.

On Using Herringbone

This project was so much fun to design, create and install and we absolutely love what the clients have done to the space! We wish the family many years of joy in their new kitchen.

“From the minute I walked into my consultation appointment to the fitting of the kitchen and aftercare, I felt I was in great hands, and I worked with very professional, experienced, and passionate people. David got straight away what I wanted and had brilliant ideas to add. I would always recommend Herringbone Kitchens and would always use them again. We came across a lot of trades during our renovation project, but the customer service of Herringbone Kitchens was the best by far.”
