The Design

We recently completed this beautiful kitchen for a lovely family in Canterbury. They chose their bespoke cabinetry from our Westminster range, the most traditional Shaker style kitchen out of our cabinetry ranges, painted in Mylands’ ‘Bond Street’, a deep denim blue.

We asked our clients why they wanted a bespoke kitchen, they said:

“We bought a house that was in need of some TLC. This was our chance to create our dream kitchen that would last forever with us in our forever home.”

The project’s design consists of two long runs of cabinetry, almost in a disjointed L shape, with a comfortable kitchen island in the centre of the room housing space for four seats, a Bora hob and a wine fridge, making it the ultimate social area.

When we asked our clients what was something they knew they wanted from the get go, they said:

“We absolutely fell in love with the [Westminster] range when we first stumbled into the studio during a Trick or Treat event! Never did I think I would actually end up with it in my home. But once we decided to make the move, a functional island, a larder unit and a wooden cutlery and utensil drawer were all on our wish list. The gadgets soon followed with the centrally extracting induction hob soon taking the limelight.”

The Details: Colours, Hardware & More

Our lovely clients chose a timeless and classic colour palette of dark blue with brass accents and elements of natural wood for their flooring and inside the cabinetry. This is showcased beautifully when opening and exploring inside the bespoke larder. Inside you will find two deep drawers, three shelves and two spice racks all in a beautiful oak. The oak also makes an exposing sneak peak appearance above the American fridge freezer in the form of a bespoke wine rack.

Keeping it simple with the hardware, the same Sparkbrook Pull Handle in varying sizes to suit each unit were chosen in a gorgeous satin brass finish, bringing some additional warmth and texture to the space with the unique knurled edge detail.

We asked what our clients process was when choosing their colours and details and this is what they had to say:

“We were on a family day out one day and saw a sign at a venue. It was a deep blue background with gorgeous gold/brass lettering. We took a photo of the sign and the planning went from there. Cupboards and handles choices quickly evolved and then it was a matter of complimenting everything else with that.”

Making Your Kitchen Dream Kitchen In The Workshop

We believe the ingredient to long lasting kitchens is using considered materials that have been well cared for. Every material used in your kitchen cabinet is from companies with strong sustainability records. In that way, we know that our kitchens are not just valued by our customers but are good for the earth and future generations.

Our timbers are sourced from well managed, responsible forests where the cycle of clearing and replanting has been continuous for many generations. We only use temperate hard and soft woods and avoid endangered tropical timbers where logging practices are generally less well controlled and regulated. We use indigenous British species wherever possible and we plant a tree for every kitchen made.

We asked our clients if they could tell us what their favourite part of their new kitchen was and they said:

“That’s a really hard question! But the cutlery drawer honestly makes me smile every time I open it, everything has the perfect place. The worktop shelf within the larder cupboard and the amazing capacity of the internal drawers are just fabulous. The worktop is my pride and joy!”

On Using Herringbone

“[Our experience with Herringbone was] Great and we were so grateful for the hard work of the team getting our kitchen finished just in time before everything went into lockdown. It’s been really nice having a team you can reach out to with any questions and who you know will take good care of you, and most importantly, your kitchen!”
